    Burke County Listening Session
    Burke County Listening Session

The University of Georgia Archway Partnership will host community listening sessions on Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Burke County campus of Augusta Technical College, 216 Highway 24 in Waynesboro. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Two sessions are scheduled, the first from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., and again that evening from 5:30-7 p.m.

The sessions are intended to help UGA Archway Partnership learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing the community. Public support and engagement is essential to identifying priorities and developing a work plan for community and economic development.

Through the Archway Partnership, a unit of UGA Public Service and Outreach, a UGA employee is based in a community to facilitate discussions with residents, who define local economic development priorities. Through Archway, the community is connected with the vast resources of the University of Georgia to help address challenges. The collaboration is supported locally by Augusta Technical College, Burke County Board of Commissioners, Burke County Board of Education, Burke County Development Authority, Burke County Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Waynesboro.

A diverse group of Burke County residents will serve on the Archway Partnership executive committee and other work groups, giving direction to community growth.

Burke County is one of eight active UGA Archway Partnership communities. Current Archway communities are Colquitt County, Grady County, Griffin-Spalding County, Hart County, Pulaski County, Thomson-McDuffie County and Washington County. Projects completed in these communities through the Archway Partnership process include new community branding, downtown revitalization and workforce training programs.

MIDVILLE - The State Route (SR) 56 detour for Mill Creek bridge construction must last one more week between Waynesboro and Midville. United Infrastructure Group plans a Friday, July 23 reopening for the location six miles northeast of Midville. Until then, the signed detour using SR 305 and SR 24 to get back to SR 56 remains in place. This infrastructure project is upgrading an out-of-date structure built in 1926 and widened in 1960. Thirty percent of daily vehicles are large trucks, making this a strategic Burke County freight and logistics enhancement.
