BURKE COUNTY RECEIVES ACCG – GROUP HEALTH BENEFITS PROGRAM HEALTH PROMOTION & WELLNESS GRANT

By:– Burke County was recently awarded the ACCG – Group Health Benefits Program Health Promotion & Wellness Grant by ACCG, Georgia's County Association. Burke County is one of 40 members to receive the Health Promotion & Wellness Grant based on its commitment to employee health and demonstrated collaboration with other community groups and organizations engaged in health promotion. “A successful wellness program is designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, which helps to control health care costs and contribute to a happier, more productive workforce", said Douglas County Commissioner and President of the ACCG – GHBP Board of Directors, Michael Mulcare. "Wellness programs greatly benefit employees, their families and the employer - everyone benefits.”

Join Burke County 4-H Clubs

By:Do you have children in 4th-12th grade in Burke County public or private schools? If so, we would love to have them join Burke County 4-H. There is no annual enrollment fee and we offer a wide variety of fun activities each year that you child might be interested in participating in. To enroll your child in 4-H, stop by the Burke County Extension Office located inside the Burke County Office Park and complete the short enrollment form. If your child is already a 4-H member, we invite you to join the Burke County 4-H Facebook group to keep up to date about what fun we have planned next!

Burke County Landfill to Open One Saturday per Month

By:Burke County Landfill to Open One Saturday per Month The Burke County landfill will begin opening the 1st Saturday in every month, beginning Saturday October 3, 2015. Hours of operation will be from 7:00 am until 12:00 noon. There will still be a tipping fee for waste disposal. Fees begin at a minimum $5.00 and go up to $43.62 per ton. Please cover all loads to prevent littering on our roads and highways.

Animal Control Advisory Committee to Meet Next Week

By:A nine-member committee has been named to help guide the county's effort to begin offering animal control services. As Burke County Commissioners move forward, they'll call on this advisory committee for ideas, suggestions and feedback on the best way to handle the county's stray dog and cat problems. The Committee will meet on Tuesday August 25th at 6:00 PM at the Burke County Library located at 130 Hwy 24 South in Waynesboro.
